About
I model Southern Pacific operations in the Owens Valley, California. I was originally going to model in HO Scale, but the lack of SP prototype locomotives made that difficult. I had resigned myself to modeling just the narrow gauge line (Slim Princess) because I couldn't find any standard gauge locomotives in S Scale. I did, though, have a model of Southern Pacific's #9, a very nice brass import from P-B-L. There are also S Scale kits of SP narrow gauge engines 1, 8, 9, and 18 available from .... I figured a couple of these would make a nice locomotive roster for a small Sn3 layout. Those plans changed when River Raisin announced a line of standard gauge Southern Pacific steam locomotives in S Scale. I bought two of them, and am in the planning stages of a shelf type (dual gauge) layout modeled on the town of Owenyo, California.
When I first got interested in S Scale trains, the biggest problem was finding vendors selling S Scale models and supplies. There was (is) a lot of information available on the Internet; unfortunately much of it is outdated. Some vendors are out of business, while other vendors still list items that are no longer available. The other problem I ran into was knowing how much to pay for a given item. S Scale trains are more expensive than N or HO scale, but you can save yourself a lot of money if you know what an item is really worth before buying it.
This site is mostly about having fun with S Scale. Whether you like American Flyer and compatible Hi Rail trains or the more scale like offerings from River Raisin or Showcase line, you should be able to find something here you'll enjoy. Besides that, I'll maintain a current list of vendors supplying S Scale and American Flyer trains, and help you keep abreast of current pricing on American Flyer and other out of production S Scale trains and equipment. I hope you enjoy your time on this site.
