I've found the following links very helpful with my S Scale modeling adventures.
General S Scale Information
The National Association of S Gaugers is the umbrella organization representing the S Scale model railroading community.

The Yahoo American Flyer group has many resources for American Flyer and compatible S Scale trains.
S Scale Motive Power and Rolling Stock
American Models offers S Scale freight cars, passenger cars, locomotives (both steam and diesel), and track. Their products are compatible with American Flyer Hi Rail trains and track. Their products are sturdy and not as highly detailed as those from some other manufacturers, so they make an excellent choice for younger children. They're fine for adults too, especially if you prefer the Hi Rail style trains.
Backwoods Miniatures is worth checking out. They have many interesting locomotive kits listed in Sn3, but I'm having a hard time finding out what is available.
S Scale Buildings and Structures
Mount Blue Model Company has a very nice S Scale farm house available in two versions with (hopefully) more S Scale building kits to be offered in the future.
